As the protector of our body, the skin acts as a waterproof shield, defensing us against the elements– chemicals, microorganisms, and even the sun. The skin guards us against the extremes of temperature. The blood vessels on the skin constricts to keeping us warm in the cold. In the heat, our skin sweats to dissipate the warmth. As a huge sensing organ, the skin also keeps our brain in touch with the outside world.

What is a Dermatologist?
A dermatologist is a medical doctor who has completed a specialized residency in the diagnosis and treatment of skin, hair, and nails. Some dermatologic diseases require in-office surgury or procedures for diagnosis and treatment. In addition, dermatologists use various treatment methods to improve one’s appearance and for partial correction of aging skin.

Evaluation and Diagnosis
During your appointment with Dr. Popkin, he will interview you in depth and thoroughly examine your problem. A close examination of your skin will guide the diagnosis and treatment. Additional diagnostic tests such as skin scraping, culture swabs, or skin biopsies (skin sampling for microscopic evaluation) may need to be performed to help us diagnose your condition. Regardless of what tests we need to run, we have your comfort in mind, and take extra steps to make all procedures as comfortable as possible.
